When I began taking guitar lessons 4 years ago, I started with the “Foundations for Guitar” book. I instantly appreciated the easy-to-understand and conversational style. I have read many music books that were filled with concepts, but lacked personal voice. Mark’s passion for music is inherent in this text as he gives honest tips and advice to his students.
There is a nice balance to this book that gives any guitar student a great opportunity to learn a variety of important musical concepts. The vocabulary or musical terminology is present, note reading/fretboard theory exercises, rhythm exercises, and songs to put all that you’ve learned to the test. If it weren’t for Mark and his book, I would still be a train WRECK when it comes to playing in time!

It all started with a gift! Three friends purchased four guitar lessons for me as my 43rd birthday approached. I had only wanted to play guitar since age 13 and always thought my hands were too small! Never even tried playing before I made that dumb decision!
Well, the old saying, "You can't teach an old dog new tricks," is only a saying! Although this instrument doesn't come naturally to me and I struggle to remember where my notes are, it is rewarding to do something you've always wanted to do.
Mark Wein has been my instructor, and not only is he an excellent musician in his own right, he can actually teach the dog a new trick! He is extremely patient and gets inside your thought process and helps you overcome your fears.
I was taking lessons from the gift certificate person shortly before my friend found Premier Music. I was fumbling at those lessons because there was no direction. My friend called me from her car after leaving Premier Music and said, "He's written a book called 'Foundations for Guitar' that starts at the first step!" My reply was, "Sign me up," and she did!
I encourage anyone who is thinking about playing the guitar, and ONLY THINKING about it, to get out there. It's a relatively cheap investment and much more enjoyable now actually playing the guitar instead of wishing I had tried it and never did.

I have been taking lessons with Mark for a few months now. These lessons have been based off of Mark's book "Foundations for Guitar". I have found this book to be an excellent tool for learning and advancing my knowledge of the instrument. The material is well written and easy to follow. It also helps a great deal to have Mark as a teacher. He is very patient and answers any questions that may come up via email. Whether your new to the instrument or have experience playing, you won't be disappointed by the book or Mark's teaching methods.

"Foundations" was my opening into the guitar world. The book has clearly laid out exercises and techniques for timing and picking patterns. Moreover, Foundations lays out the most useable chords both open, barre, 7, 9 diminished and moveable, chart reading and beginning note reading. I have the earliest volume of this book and it has been refined since then. Also, Mark Wein is a dedicated/competent instructor that is both patient and innovative.

I have been taking guitar lessons for a little more than a year now at Premier Music under the tutelage of Mark Wein. I find his book, "Foundations for Guitar", quite user-friendly and easy to understand. It's a well laid-out step by step program for beginners or seasoned players.
